Now THIS Is Podracing!
I’ve been building something a little different lately - a set of functional podracing controllers. Custom 3D printed throttles, buttons, switches, and code I wrote to bring the whole thing together. Basically, I wanted a podracer cockpit on my desk. So here we are.
WHAT’S GOING ON?
This project brings together a lot of what I love like designing, 3D printing, electronics, and making games feel a little more real. I wanted these controllers to feel like something pulled out of a real podracer, while being something you can actually print, assemble, and use at home. I’m extremely stoked to share the build and see what other people do with it.
The digital bundle pack includes the 3D models and access to the code I wrote. That’s what the bundle will always be. The build guide, parts list, and supporting resources will always be free, so you can look through the entire project and see what you’re getting into before committing to a build.
WHAT’S AHEAD?
For those who would rather grab a finished set, I’m planning occasional drops of small batches of controllers. Maybe 5 or 10 sets every couple months, depending on what I can realistically build. I want each set to be its own thing - unique colors, finishes, and details inspired by different podracers and their cockpits. One-off builds with some personality. These will be first come, first served, with shipping to the US only for now. Join the Drop List if you want an email when a batch goes live.
I’m also looking at expanding the project with new throttle and panel designs inspired by other podracers. More options you can download and print yourself, and designs I can work into future physical drops. There are a lot of weird cockpits in that starting lineup. I’d like to build a few of them.
Further down the road, I plan to design a custom PCB to simplify the wiring and assembly, especially for builders who want to sell my kit. Less time soldering individual wire connections, more time putting cool controllers together.
